Agarwood forms only when a tree is wounded. The resin is a defence. That is the whole romance of oud, and the whole reason it is expensive.
What we buy We buy cured wood and small-batch distilled oil, never bulk accords. Batches are assessed on smoke, sweetness and the way the animalic edge settles after twenty minutes on skin.
Real versus synthetic A synthetic oud is loud on the strip and flat on the body. A real one changes: barnyard, then leather, then a sweet resin that stays close.
Why the house blends Neat oud is not for everyone. Our Mukhallat Oud, Purple Oud and Oud Elitaire each place the material against rose, amber or vanilla so the wood is legible rather than overwhelming.
